We are delighted to be able to offer midwives and
student midwives the opportunity to join us in our
new workshop to the Florida Keys, USA.

Together with Midwife Marina Alzugaray from
Comadres Institute, we have created a week-long
workshop which enables midwives from the UK to study
the use of water during pregnancy, labour and birth,
an introduction to the American Aquanatal programme,
the links between women and dolphins and
explore other related topics and ideas.

By popular request, the trip will also include
a half-day ocean cruise with the opportunity to
see and swim with wild dolphins and a 'free day'
to explore historic Key West at your leisure.

outline of our itinerary

We fly from London to Miami, Florida on
Saturday morning, arriving in Miami late afternoon.
From there, it is a scenic 3-hour drive down the Keys,
with a stop for dinner at a restaurant on the way.
Arriving at our waterfront hostel Saturday evening,
we plan to have a relaxing Sunday, orientating to the Keys,
swimming in the ocean, walking the local trails and
enabling the group to get to know each other better.

The workshop begins on Monday morning and
continues until Thursday. The topics and activities
which are available include the following:

physiology of women and water

using water for labour

updating on waterbirth:
evidence and experience

water babies

women's ocean art

introduction to American Aquanatal
(one-day certificated course)

visions of dolphins

swimming with dolphins

local walks / ocean swimming

water, women and spirituality

images of women and water

Weather permitting, we also have time and equipment for walks, cycling and kayaking.

(Full workshop programme will be sent on application).

All accommodation and meals are included in the price,
except for lunch and dinner on Friday,
when we have left free time for the group to explore
the Keys on their own. Free transportation will be available
to (and from) Key West, where participants can explore the historic
town, visit museums and the 'gingerbread houses', relax
with a beer and watch the local street performers,
commune with the Florida wildlife, or
take a sunset cruise in a pirate's galleon!
(The cost of these activities is not included!)

There will be enough time for a last swim in the ocean
on Saturday morning before we drive back to Miami,
stopping for a picnic at a beach en route.
Our flight will leave Miami early Saturday evening
and we will land in London on Sunday morning.
